New For 2010

Target by Moonlight is an autobiography of the life and RAF experiences of Coventry born Dennis Field. Educated at Bablake School, Dennis recalls his early life during the 1920s and 1930s which were to have a profound influence on his RAF career. Like so many at that time, he qualified as a pilot in Canada enjoying the flying experience, life-style and absence of food rationing. Destined to become a fighter pilot his hopes were dashed on joining Bomber Command as a ‘skipper’ of Stirling aircraft. Initial training was often hazardous followed by the first operational sorties into enemy occupied Europe. He did not take part in the bombing of German cities but was selected for Special Operations, supplying the French Resistance (Maquis). Avoiding enemy installations by flying low level at night to locate a single drop zone in a French field were remarkable and dangerous achievements. After the war, further adventure followed by flying Avro York passenger aircraft on some of the first regular long haul flights to the Far East.
This is a remarkable contribution to our knowledge of RAF achievement and we are pleased to contribute a proportion of the sales income to the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.
