Kenilworth
is an old country town, situated at the heart of England and built
around one of the greatest of our castles. Yet there is so much
more than the Castle to please the eye of the visitor. The town
boasts of magnificent areas of parks and woodlands. Its Abbey Fields
and Park are spread along a valley near the Castle between two verdant
hills where stand the remains of the Abbey of St. Mary and the fine
old parish church of St. Nicholas where Queen Elizabeth I took communion
during her stay at the Castle. Further down the valley is the Common,
until recently said to be the last remaining heathland in Warwickshire,
now heavily wooded. Nearby is Crackley Woods, which fills with bluebells
in the Spring. All of these are areas freely open to residents and
visitors...............
