Recent research since the publication of “Fifty Ship paintings by Francis Hustwick” (A.S.Davidson  and Anthony Tibbles, 1999), has now clarified the question of the artist’s parents. In addition it is now clear that his father, Francis Hustwick senior, died much earlier than previously thought. As a consequence, the attribution of paintings at Hull previously thought to be by Francis senior require reappraisal.

The intervening six years since publication has also brought to light more than thirty additional unsigned paintings, attributable to Francis junior.
